I love Wordplays. Little language quirks you find when you live across cultures or countries. Your brain can stumble on things natives may miss, simply because they take their language at face value.
For example, I have a friend who’s a pun master. He’d do it all day long, and I’d be happy to oblige–it’s a great way to keep things light, keep the brain sharp, have fun. 🌞
After a particularly good pun, I said “10 Points for Griffyndor!” (Harry Potter wink 😉 He translated this to one of my littles, “10 punten..!” To which I replied, “punten?!” And he missed it, because he’s Dutch, so I repeated it: Tien PUNten? And he was struck! 🙂
Puntastic!
So on to today’s Wordplay!
Uitrusting = Equipped, like getting ready for battle.
-but!-
Rust = Rest. (see also: uitslapen = sleeping in)
So the word for the equipment and tools one might need to prepare for a battle contains the word Rest.
So take your chill pill. No shame. Even Kings and Warriors in the bible (and everywhere?) would feast to gain strength for the battle. Pass the Mead!
“Joy = Strength” is literally biblical.
Nehemiah 8:10
4 Tips for Chilling, for the still-sitting impaired
Resting can feel like a cop-out, but these days, I think we need to take some extra care of ourselves. To take caring for our “selves” a little bit more seriously.
- Walk in Nature:
Nature, scientifically proven to be mentally and physically relaxing and restorative. So much so that even looking at pictures of nature has the same effect, wowza! - Breathe:
Some moments or minutes of breathing, particularly with awareness and increasing length a bit, helps take you out of a cortisol frenzy, into oxytocin. Win/Win.
- Turn on the Music
It’s hard to be in a funk when your favorite song comes on. Music is a powerful drug, we all know. Uee it OFTEN. - Read a Book:
No, not watching youtube, and maybe even not a podcast…but it has been scientifically proven that reading lowers blood pressure. Maybe because it stills us, it slows us down, and it make a racing brain focused on 80 things, singularly and simply focused on one–the story at hand. Enjoy!
More tips on resilience and self-care are in my book, Ready for Crazy: Pocket Guide to the End of the World (free downloads here).
Please take it easy people. Even nature, who is non-stop, takes her rest period.
